Colour Combo From A Photo - Blue Orange

It’s really fun to use a photo to inspire a colour palette.  Yes, here in Australia we have a ‘u’ in colour, but you can pretend I’ve spelt it color if you like.

You might remember this photo of Canberra model Lara Schroeder from my photography portfolio website – well I’ve taken this photo and used it to inspire a colour combo of blue and orange:

Colour Combo: Blue and Orange

Here is some more on this great colour combination from Apartment Therapy – Making Complementary Colors Work for You:

Cool blue and punchy orange are such an odd couple, yet when they come together they make such beautiful music.

So what does this mean for the decorator? It means that combinations of complementary colors are especially dynamic together, since they play up each other’s intensity. A tiny bit of orange really pops in a blue room (and vice versa) because your eye wants to see that color. A combination of two complementary colors may be perceived as soothing or balanced, since it simultaneously stimulates different parts of the eye. Don’t believe me?

Check out some of the examples below.

Orange and blue are one of my fave colour combos – what about you?
